How to Install IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV

How to Install IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV - Smarters IPTV Canada

Samsung is the best-selling TV brand in Canada, and most Samsung Smart TVs can play IPTV with no extra box. You install a player app from the TV’s own app store, log in with your subscription, and your channels appear alongside Netflix and YouTube. This guide shows how to install IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV, model by model. For more background, see Samsung Canada TV support.

This guide covers the full setup on Samsung’s Tizen system, which models work, what to do when an app asks for a MAC address, and the easiest fix for older TVs.

Quick answer

Quick answer
  1. Press Home on the remote and open Apps.
  2. Search for an IPTV player such as IPTV Smarters Pro and install it.
  3. Open the app and sign in with the username, password and server URL we sent you.
  4. If the app shows a MAC address or device key instead, send it to us and we activate it for you.

Does my Samsung TV support IPTV?

Samsung Smart TVs run an operating system called Tizen. In general:

  • 2018 models and newer (series such as the Crystal UHD, QLED, Neo QLED and The Frame) have the widest choice of IPTV player apps and run them well.
  • 2016 and 2017 models can often run a player, but the choice of apps is smaller and they can be slow with large channel lists.
  • Models before 2016 rarely have a suitable app. For these, a streaming stick is the better route (see below).

To find your model year, go to Settings > Support > About This TV. The model code shows the year: for example, a code containing “AU” or “CU” is from a recent series.

App availability also depends on your region. The Samsung app store in Canada does not always offer the same apps as in the US or Europe, so if one app is missing, try another player from the list below.

What you need

  • A Samsung Smart TV connected to the internet, by cable or Wi-Fi.
  • Your login details: username, password and server URL. We send these by email or WhatsApp when your free trial or subscription starts.
  • A Samsung account on the TV. The app store asks you to sign in or create one the first time.

Step 1: Update your TV software

Outdated software is the most common reason an IPTV app is missing or crashes. Go to Settings > Support > Software Update and choose Update Now. Turn on Auto Update while you are there.

Step 2: Find an IPTV player app

Step 2: Find an IPTV player app
  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Open Apps, then select the search (magnifying glass) icon.
  3. Search for IPTV Smarters Pro. If it is not available on your model, try another IPTV player that supports “Xtream Codes” or “M3U” logins.

Stick to apps from the official Samsung store. Samsung TVs cannot install apps from outside the store, which also protects you from fake copies.

Step 3: Install and open the app

Select the app and choose Install. When it finishes, choose Open. To keep it on your home bar, choose Add to Home from the app page.

Step 4: Log in

Samsung IPTV apps use one of two ways to connect. Your app shows you which one on the first screen.

Option A: username and password (Xtream Codes)

Option A: username and password (Xtream Codes)
  1. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API or the option that asks for a username and password.
  2. Enter any profile name, then the username, password and server URL exactly as we sent them. They are case sensitive.
  3. Confirm. Your channels, movies and series load within a minute.

Option B: MAC address or device key

Some Samsung apps do not have a login form. Instead, they show a MAC address (six pairs of letters and numbers, like 00:1A:79:xx:xx:xx) or a device key on screen. Take a photo of that screen and send it to us. We link your subscription to the TV, and the channels appear when you restart the app. Some of these apps charge a small one-time activation fee to their developer; that fee is separate from your subscription.

Step 5: Check the TV guide

Open the live TV section. The program guide should show what is on now and next. If it is empty, look for Update EPG or Refresh in the app settings. Our EPG troubleshooting guide covers the other fixes.

No app on your Samsung? Use a streaming stick

If your TV is older or the app you want is not in the store, plug a streaming device into a free HDMI port:

A stick often gives a smoother experience than the TV’s built-in apps, because it has a faster processor and gets app updates more often. When you use a stick, switch the TV input with the Source button.

Common problems and fixes

The app crashes or freezes

Turn the TV off at the wall for 30 seconds, not just with the remote. Samsung TVs go into standby and keep apps in memory; a full power cycle clears it. You can also clear an app’s cache in Settings > Support > Device Care > Manage Storage.

Buffering on Wi-Fi

The TV’s Wi-Fi is often weaker than a phone’s. If the router is in another room, use an Ethernet cable or a powerline adapter. Our guide to IPTV buffering fixes covers everything else.

The picture looks stretched or cut off

Press the Settings button, go to Picture > Picture Size Settings, and choose 16:9 Standard with Fit to Screen turned on.

The app disappeared after an update

Samsung sometimes removes apps from its store. The app usually keeps working if already installed. If it is gone, install another player and log in again with the same details.

Make it feel like cable

Once your channels load, a few minutes of setup makes the app much quicker to use every day:

  • Favourites: highlight a channel and press and hold OK or use the app’s star icon to add it to Favourites. Put local news, hockey and kids channels there.
  • Catch-up: channels with a clock icon let you replay programs from the past few days from the guide.
  • Auto-start: on many Samsung models, Settings > General > Start Screen Options can open the last used app when the TV turns on.
  • Parental controls: set a PIN on adult categories in the app, and turn on Program Rating Lock in the Samsung settings if children use the TV. See IPTV parental controls.

IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV: frequently asked questions

Yes. In most IPTV apps, the arrow keys move through the channel list and the channel up and down buttons switch channels while watching.

Does 4K work on Samsung TVs?

On a 4K Samsung TV, yes, as long as your internet speed is at least 25 Mbps. Check what speed you need.
